The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states:
”Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances” – 1791
Some interesting facts:
- 1 day after they passed the 1st ammendment, legislature petitioned George Washington to institute the National Day of Prayer…he accepted.
- In his farewell address George Washington is quoted as saying, “morality cannot be obtained without religion”
- The same legislature that instituted the 1st Ammendment required that 20,000 Bibles be distributed throughout the country.
- James Madison, one of the primary founders of the Bill of Rights, petitioned in 1789 to open every legislative session in prayer and it has been done ever since.
- “Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” — John Adams, Oct. 11, 1798
- The 10 commandments are inscribed in 6 different places around the architecture of the Supreme Court building.
- The U.S. Capitol Building includes a stained glass window with Psalm 16:1 “Preserve me, O God, for in Thee do I put my trust” displayed on it.
- The “wall of separation between church and state” term was actually coined by Thomas Jefferson 11 yrs. after the 1st Ammendment. It is not in the original language of the Constitution and former Cheif Justice William Rehnquist has said that there is no historical foundation that they wanted a ‘wall’ and that it is a metaphor based on bad history.
{I understand that many, if not most, of these men could not be considered professing Christians and are not to be models of the Christian faith or proponents for Jesus Christ. Don’t go there, that is not my point.}
My point is that the moral foundation of our country was based and still needs to be based on a higher authority, namely the Scriptures. And by excluding a higher authority from our governance we are actually not being neutral towards religion, but hostile.
We are establishing a religion of ’secularism’ where legal authority comes from where??? The ruling majority? If that is going to be the basis for our government (which was not the original intent) then we cannot say what Hitler did was wrong because it was the primary view of the ruling majority in his country at that time.
Until about 50-60 years ago this was barely questioned, but since then the number of rulings against religion and for the secular mindset has been rampant.
This is a burden to me.
Does anyone else see where this is going if we do not repent as a nation and pray for God to save our country?

Thanks for the list of factoids. And a special thanks for the call for repentance.

I’m of the opinion, that this nation is so morally bankrupt the only way it has any future at all is for Christians in this country to repent of trying win battles the world’s way. We (God’s people) are to wage war as God instructed: On our knees and in (and by) His Word!
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”
- 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
